True Combat Elite
True Combat EliteTrue Combat Elite is a total conversion mod for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. The mod is free, and so is Wolfenstein, so there is no need to go and buy any software, its all completely free and downloadable via their respective websites.

TCE focuses on squad-based tactics. Given the very realistic physics, a single shot could severely injure your character. The whole purpose of TCE is to give a sense of realism that forces players to take cover and to think twice about rushing. The absence of cross-hairs only adds to this feel.

Different play modes include Objective (Diffuse the bomb), Bodycount (Deathmatch), and Capture the Flag. As stated above, TCE is a modern-day shooter, and includes such guns as the Beretta 92, Ump45, Ak-47, M4, and various other weapon sets.

True Combat Elite boasts graphics rendered from high resolution digital camera shots and HDR lighting. Lag is rare (unless you have dial-up) due to 'client-side bullet prediction' and punkbuster support.

Servers are not a problem, especially if you play using gamespy, although because of this being a highly modifiable game, most servers you join will require you to download all the modifications they have added on their server. This is a huge downside for those who like to keep their disk space clean and those who just want to jump into it.

TCE is the kind of game you have to learn to get used to, for it doesn't change for you. The techniques involve a lot of tactics and quick-thinking. Definitely not your average run and gun game. If you're looking for a quick game, look elsewhere.
